Malecón & old town · Puerto Vallarta
March 26, 2025 · Puerto Vallarta

One month before the wedding, a morning walking the old town of Puerto Vallarta.

A save-the-date session gives you the photograph for the card — and it gives us a rehearsal, so that on the wedding day being in front of a camera is no longer something either of you thinks about.

Los Arcos, the Plaza de Armas, the cobblestones

We started at the arches on the Malecón early enough that the boardwalk still belonged to the joggers and the pelicans. Then the Plaza de Armas, still dressed in papel picado, under the crowned tower of the Parroquia de Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe. There is a carousel on the square. They rode it — nobody asked them to. Then the rope bridge over the Cuale, the market stalls, the fig trees, and the enormous eagle mural on Juárez.

Where to shoot a save-the-date in Vallarta

The old town gives you the most variety in the least walking: the Malecón, the Plaza de Armas, Isla Cuale, Gringo Hill for the rooftops, Playa Los Muertos for the water — all within twenty minutes on foot. Sunrise for empty streets, two hours before sunset for the light. Wear something you can walk in.
