Punta Mita Wedding Photographer
Punta Mita is the quiet, luxurious tip of Banderas Bay — and one of my favourite places to photograph and film a wedding: barefoot on the sand, in a resort garden, or at a private villa above the Pacific.
I'm Julien Leveau, a French photographer living on Banderas Bay since 2006. I photograph weddings as they really happen — about 90% photojournalism, the rest fine-art portraits — and with my team I also film them. In Punta Mita, that means knowing the resorts, their wedding teams and their rules, and knowing where the light falls at five in the afternoon.
Weddings I have photographed and filmed in Punta Mita
- Michelle & Marina at the St. Regis Punta Mita — an LGBTQ+ destination wedding, three days of celebration ending at the tip of the peninsula.
- Kam & Amanda at Iberostar Playa Mita — a gazebo ceremony facing the Pacific in Litibú, and sunset portraits on the beach.
- Stacy & Rich at the Punta Mita Beach Club — a vow renewal after twenty years, with their children and their original wedding party.
- Jennifer & Michael, and Maaheem & Yusef, at Nahui — two weddings styled by Dazzling Details, both on film.
- Paulina & David — a ceremony at San Pedro y San Pablo, the village church of Punta de Mita, then a reception at Nahui.

Choosing your wedding venue in Punta Mita
Luxury resorts
The Four Seasons, the St. Regis, the W Punta de Mita and Iberostar Playa Mita all host weddings, each with its own wedding team, lawns and beach. Each also has its own rules for outside photographers: some ask for insurance or my details in advance, some charge a fee. Once you book, I contact your resort or planner, confirm everything and tell you in advance if a fee applies.
Private villas and estates
Many couples rent a villa for the whole family and marry right there, on the terrace or on the villa's own stretch of beach. It is intimate and very free for photography — I have worked at estates such as Rancho 11, where the pool sits right over the sand.
Beach clubs, Nahui and the village
For a more relaxed feel, the beach clubs and Nahui offer a ceremony on the sand and dinner under the stars. And for a church wedding, San Pedro y San Pablo, in the fishing village of Punta de Mita, is small, simple and full of light.
In Punta Mita, the sun sets straight into the Pacific — plan your day around that last hour.
Light, season and timing
The dry season, from November to May, brings clear skies and soft evenings; from December to March, humpback whales cross the bay. Summer is hot and green, with tropical rain and the hurricane season — beautiful, but plan a covered option. I usually suggest a ceremony that ends about an hour and a half before sunset: around 6 pm in winter, closer to 8 pm in summer. That leaves the best light for your couple portraits on the beach.
Photo and film, one team
My team and I can cover your wedding in photo and video together, so you deal with one person and one schedule. Here are two films from Punta Mita.
The film: Paulina & David in Punta Mita
A ceremony at San Pedro y San Pablo, the village church of Punta de Mita, then dinner and dancing at Nahui.
The film: Kam & Amanda at Iberostar Playa Mita
Vows in the gazebo above the Pacific, then a party with family and friends in Litibú, Punta Mita.
Punta Mita is about 45 minutes from Puerto Vallarta. I also photograph weddings in Puerto Vallarta and in Sayulita and San Pancho, and family sessions with my Punta Mita family photographer page. Tell me your date and your venue, and I will tell you how I would photograph your day. Ask for your quote.
