Getting married at Grand Mayan Palace, Nuevo Vallarta

June 5, 2021 · Puerto Vallarta

My first ever wedding was at Grand Mayan Palace in Nuevo Vallarta. That was eight years ago; I wasn't yet a photographer, and I had ten percent of the equipment I work with now. I was quite nervous and had no clue of what being a wedding photographer really was. My background was my paintings, my sculptures, my passion for arts, a photography trip in Iceland, and a collection of personal pictures. That's how it started. Years after, my passion for photography has grown — and here I am again, at the Grand Mayan Palace, shooting the wedding of a lovely couple, the marriage of Pau & René.

The Grand Mayan is a huge place, and it's not easy to find a spot that allows you to shoot the whole architecture. It is quite frustrating when you want to shoot everything but distance makes it impossible. But we did it: in 20 minutes, we went to the closest place with a bit of charm, away from the mass and the tourist area, and took the shots I was hoping for.

My work means a lot of things. I'm in charge of probably the most important day of a couple and I need to capture the memories that will be made. That's a big commitment that requires knowledge, skills and sacrifices. When I get back home after a wedding, my whole body is sore as if I had run the Olympic games — and even though I enjoy so much what I do, I won't sleep until I have reviewed the photos.

You can't imagine the emotion that the happiness of a couple provokes once they can finally see their wedding photos. They start to remember every detail, every special moment. It is really gratifying to have a job that gives so much happiness to its customers. I hope Pau and René will be happy today and always.

The ceremony was built by Talbot Ross Events, a wedding company located in downtown Puerto Vallarta.
