My first ever weddingwas at Grand Mayan Palace in Nuevo Vallarta. That was eight years ago, I wasn’t yet a photographer, and I had ten percent of the equipment I work with now. I was quite nervous and had no clue of what being a wedding photographer really was. My backstage was my paints, my sculptures, my passion for arts, a photography trip in Island, and a collection of personal pictures. That how it started. Years after, my passion for photography has grown, and here I am again, at the Grand Mayan Palace, shooting the wedding of a lovely couple, the marriage of Pau & René.
The Grand Mayan is a huge place, and it’s not easy to find a spot that allows to shoot at the whole architecture. It is quite frustrating when you feel like you want to shoot everything, but distance makes it impossible. I can’t take the bride and groom 20 minutes away! That would include walking away from the ceremony, do the shots, the lens changes, the lights fix, the ideas, it’s a rush, there is no time for thinking, and no time for walking. But we did it, we did that in 20 minutes, we went to the closest place with a bit of charm, away from the mass and the tourist area and took the shots I was hoping for.
My work, means lot of things, I’m in charge of probably the most important day of a couple and I need to capture the souvenirs that will be made. That’s a big commitment that requires many knowledges, skills and sacrifices. When I get back home after a wedding, my whole body is sour as if I went to run the Olympic games. Even though I enjoy so much what I do: I won’t sleep until I have reviewed the photos, which means waiting till 4am that they’ve been uploaded to the computer, which means a beautiful 18 hours worked in a day. But as I said, I love it!
You can’t imagine the emotion that provokes the happiness of a couple and their feedback once they can finally see their wedding’s photos. They start to remember every detail, every special moment. It is really gratifying to have a job that gives so much happiness to its customers. I hope Pao and René will be happy today and always, and that each viewing of their photos can remember and live again all the love and excitement of those moments.
